This is an exciting role for a talented and experienced biochemist/pharmacologist to work within the Neuroscience therapeutic area and engage in breakthrough research in a vibrant drug discovery environment - inspired by patients, driven by science.

Senior group leader - Pharmacology / Biochemistry / Biophysics / Molecular biology

Job nature, scope and main accountabilities:

We are currently hiring an experienced pharmacologist / biochemist / biophysicist / molecular biologist to strengthen our Neuroscience Discovery group. The Neuroscience discovery group sits within the Neuroscience therapeutic area and is composed of around 20 permanent staff. The remits of the group include but are not limited to support our pre-clinical CNS projects by developing differentiating and disease relevant biochemical and cell based assays, by screening compounds and delivering high quality data in a timely fashion, by studying the mechanism of action of more advanced compounds in order to select only the best candidates to progress into the clinic and by understanding target and disease biology to identify relevant biomarkers. In order to achieve these goals the group has access to state of the art equipment and technologies either internally or through collaborations.

The candidate will report to the Head of Neuroscience Discovery and will lead a group of PhD/MSc level scientists. As a member of the Neuroscience Discovery and Neuroscience therapeutic area leadership teams, she/He is expected to actively contribute in defining and implementing the general strategy of the department. He/She will be accountable for the timely delivery and reporting of high quality data generated by his/her group and is expected to (co)-lead pre-clinical projects. Importantly, the successful candidate will identify, propose and implement new technologies to constantly improve the quality and efficiency of support given to pre-clinical projects and will actively participate in our effort to identify and validate new targets to enter into our pre-clinical portfolio.

Education, Experience and Skills
* Neuroscientist with a PhD in pharmacology / biochemistry / biophysics / molecular biology and 10 years of experience in a bio-pharmaceutical environment with leadership accountability.
* Excellent knowledge of the drug discovery process including project management.
* Experienced in setting-up bespoke assays to probe drug target interactions, signaling pathways and mode of actions of drugs.
* Trained in quantifying and analyzing relevant data and parameters using adequately described mathematical models (using Excel and/or Graphpad Prism).
* Expert in receptor, ion channel or enzyme pharmacology
* Mastering technologies such as surface plasma resonance, mass spectrometry, thermal shift assays, BRET, FRET,…
* Good knowledge of molecular biology and gene editing techniques

The successful candidate is expected to be open minded, have excellent interpersonal relationships as the job requires many interactions with colleagues within and across departments and with external collaborators. Consequently, good communication is essential. The candidate will be fluent in English (spoken and written) as it is the official language used in meetings as well as for written reporting.
