Senior Laboratory Engineer - Advanced Laboratory

Job Description

Processes, presents and reports the results from advanced laboratory testing including resonant column tests, cyclic triaxial tests, bender element tests, and stress path triaxial tests. Can also run these tests when required. Develops test programmes, test conditions and writes test instructions; all in accordance with Company procedures, Health and Safety and Quality policies. Liaise with clients to provide updates of test progress and scheduling information.

Key responsibilities

  • Design advanced laboratory test programmes to give soil parameters for use by Fugro or its Clients in foundation engineering and ground model development;
  • Perform foundation engineering to a level allowing estimates of soil stresses to be applied in soil testing programmes;
  • Work closely with Advanced Laboratory Testing staff to initiate and run testing programmes;
  • Monitor ongoing tests during and after all key testing stages; compare with anticipated specimen behaviour and check for anomalous behaviour;
  • Process test data into a Company standard, report ready format, developing in-house processing spreadsheets/tools as required;
  • Review and check others processed and presented data;
  • Interpret test programmes, considering/integrating as appropriate other relevant site investigation data including standard laboratory testing output and in-situ data;
  • Produce reports and issue to Clients.
  • Qualifications

    A degree in Civil Engineering or related Earth Science discipline or equivalent in education or experience.


    Experience in Geotechnical Engineering and in the specification and use of advanced laboratory tests


  • Excellent numeracy and literacy;
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in testing software and programming Excel spreadsheets with embedded macros;
  • Competent use of email;
  • Excellent knowledge of foundation engineering issues
