From shy engineer to passionate dean

Dean Marion Debruyne’s earliest dream was to be a ballerina. However, as time passed, she began to apply her dancer’s drive and passion to her educational path. She earned a degree in Civil Engineering, and then later a PhD in Applied Economics. In between, she received a Master’s in Marketing from Vlerick − which is where she discovered what she really wanted to do!

As Dean of Vlerick Business School, Marion has two main ambitions: first, to further the School’s rising recognition outside Belgium; and second, to define the ways that Vlerick, as a business school, can really help people put knowledge into action in today’s rapidly evolving global society. 

In some ways,” she says, “I’ve probably exceeded the dreams that I’ve had.” Although Marion didn’t become a ballerina, maybe she has grown to become a kind of choreographer: directing Vlerick’s next steps on the international stage…
