Within BASF Seed and Traits R&D, genome engineering refers to generation of genetically modified plants. The Genome Engineering groups in Trait Research combine state-of-the-art genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation expertise, as well as are highly experienced in workflow-based operational organization aimed at minimal cost and timelines while ensuring required quality. Genome Engineering is embedded in a research department that focuses on trait discovery, engineering and evaluation. For the Genome Engineering group in our R&D Innovation Center in Gent (Belgium) we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Technician.
This is your task Package:
In this role you will be part of our Genome Engineering group and support delivering on R&D projects at a competitive cost, speed and quality.
As a Technician, you will be hands-on involved in the execution and organization of research projects related to genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation.
You will be involved in technology development and platform innovation as well as in workflow-based operations.
You will plan and execute your work independently, in alignment with the team goals set by your supervisor.
You will record, compile, summarize experimental data and report to your supervisor and in the relevant databases (Ceres & ELN).
You will contribute to optimizing protocols and workflows and you will troubleshoot where needed.
You will act as a role model with respect to ensuring compliance with the relevant company standards (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Stewardship,...).
QUALIFICATIONS You have a Bachelor`s degree Life Sciences (or equivalent through experience) with a minimum of 3 years lab experience.
Multi-crop experience in relevant aspects of plant genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation is preferred.
You are accurate and technically independent.
You have a good knowledge and understanding of technical protocols and can contribute in optimizing them.
You are able to self-assess the quality of the materials and data you produce, and troubleshoot when needed.
You are self-organized, able to plan and organize your work on a weekly basis.
You have advanced computer skills (Microsoft office) and operational knowledge of relevant software and databases (Ceres & ELN).
You have effective communication skills, both verbally and written in Dutch and English.
You are a team player.
You are positive, enthusiastic, pragmatic and you have a getting-things-done mentality.
You are an innovative thinker in process & efficiency improvement.
