The Chemical Production facility in Geel, Belgium is part of the Janssen Supply Chain organization within Johnson & Johnson and is the largest manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) within the network. The APIs are then sent for further processed through pharmaceutical production into tablets, ointments, syrups and other formulations. The Process Engineer (M/F/X) will become member of the Technical Operation team. This team is responsible for supporting New Product Introductions (NPI) and Life Cycle Management (LCM) portfolio, manage product transfers, support process validation and improvements and deploy standard/new technologies. As a successful candidate you will be responsible for the assigned processes (within LCM or NPI portfolio) by maintaining/introducing manufacturing readiness and implementing efficiency improvements while still ensuring that safety, environmentally sound practices and quality are embedded in everything you do. This in combination with having the ownership of complex project support. Working in partnership with multifunctional groups and collaboration with the business across departments is a crucial aspect to this role. Solid understanding of chemical synthesis is preferred!
Duties and Job Responsibilities:
Build knowledge as a process engineer and integrate this knowledge in the organization. Provides comprehensive process advice. Facilitates resolution of sophisticated operational problems.
Support of daily activities in production for the assigned chemical processes (eg. Campaign preparation and follow-up, support in process-related quality investigations, process validation, …)
leading your own projects within the cluster or commercial/NPI portfolio.
Build a strong network with departments like manufacturing, quality, technical engineering and cluster teams to be able to develop and complete these projects and deliver process requirements.
Find opportunities to increase process efficiency, promote and implement innovative initiatives for process optimizations and cost improvement projects.
Customer Audit Support
Qualifications Master’s Degree or PhD preferably in Chemical engineering or process technology (bioengineering, industrial engineering or chemistry), or proven record in an industrial, operational environment.
Solid understanding of API manufacturing. Proven understanding in chemical synthesis. Technical knowledge of some of the following is highly valued: reactor/centrifuge/dryer or new technologies, process analytical technologies (PAT), data analytical tools/digitalisation, lean manufacturing, root cause analytical tools
Strong interpersonal skills, eg influencing and handling conflicting interests.
Able to take decisions autonomously. Poses strong skills in communication and have a result driven personality.
Strong analytical skills, high level of accuracy, good foresight on cost improvements.
Owns good project management, organizing, planning and coordination skills. Experience in process excellence, lean production concepts and tools (certification is a plus).
Develops strong collaborations with internal and external business partners. Is an excellent teammate.
Big Picture Orientation with attention to detail – able to operate in two ‘worlds’ at one time, sees the why as well as the what; can zoom in or out as needed.
Working knowledge of English (both verbally and written) and Dutch (or willing to develop proficiency in Dutch)
