Project Engineer (PhD or MSc) for a demonstration project in retrofitting and machine upgrading
In retrofitting, legacy machines are upgraded with new technologies to provide them with new capabilities, such as connectivity, processing or novel sensing capabilities. As legacy machines have a lifetime of one or more decades, novel technologies within Internet of Things (IoT) have emerged in the meantime. In the project “Machine Upgrading the aim is to demonstrate the possibilities of retrofitting machines using state-of-the-art Internet-of-things technologies, so novel parameters can be measured and sent towards a centralized back-end system. This project is a collaboration with partners within Flanders Make and the Ghent University.
In this vacancy, the candidate will design and build demonstrator(s) the illustrate the machine retrofit/upgrading based on realistic use cases. Furthermore, the candidate will investigate the benefit of these retrofitting. The candidate will document and present these demonstrators to a industrial audience and will organize regular workshops for industry and academic institutions. Furthermore, the candidate will perform one-on-one discussions with companies to find and investigate relevant use cases concerning machine upgrading.
