Post-doc Scientist in Epilepsy
Job nature and scope:
To strengthen our research investment to identify novel drug targets to cure refractory epilepsy, we are currently hiring a talented PhD for a 3-year post-doc position to join Neuroscience Discovery Biology group based in Braine L'Alleud, Belgium. This position is funded by the Walloon government and UCB with a starting date 01-05-2019. The aim is to understand underlying mechanisms of mTOR pathways in drug resistant epilepsy and validate the identified targets and pathways in hiPSC-derived neurons. This will require to develop new technologies and assays with various molecular, cellular and electrophysiological approaches. In order to achieve this goal we are seeking a highly skilled, lab-based post-doc scientist in neuroscience, ideally with expertise in the epilepsy field. The successful candidate will develop new technologies and assays with various molecular, cellular and electrophysiological approaches. The candidate should provide high quality data and is up-to-date with relevant
scientific literature to pro-actively identify new targets. The post-doc scientist will work in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.
Experience and technical skills
The ideal candidate will have his/her PhD in the field(s) of neuroscience (epilepsy) and will have a proven track record of publications in peer reviewed, high quality scientific journals. She/He has a very good knowledge and experimental skills in molecular and cell biology in neuroscience, particularly human iPSC culture and neuronal differentiation, viral transduction, CRISPR gene editing and neuronal phenotypic read-outs (e.g. high-content imaging) and electrophysiology (including multi-electrode arrays). Experience in epilepsy, transcriptomics, LC/MS-MS, Turbo-ID are additional assets. She/He is skilled in designing well thought experimental studies to identify novel anti-epileptic targets and to validate targets in disease-relevant in vitro systems. She/He has the appropriate analytical skill to quantify and analyze data using Excel, Graphpad Prism and other statistical software. She/He is proactive in challenging current models/theories by proposing constructive
new ideas. The post-doc is expected to make several oral presentations showing the progression of his/her project and to publish the results of his studies in high quality peer reviewed journals.
Education and soft skills
PhD in neuroscience.
The successful candidate is expected to be open minded, have excellent interpersonal relationships as the job requires many interactions with colleagues within and across departments and with external collaborators. Consequently, good communication is essential. The candidate will be fluent in English (spoken and written) as it is the official language used in meetings as well as for written reporting.
