The working environment

The Seism and Structural Integrity Group belongs to the Civil Works and Structural Integrity Competence Centre of Tractebel Engineering's Nuclear Entity. It is in charge of the engineering and design of mechanical structure and components including seismic design in the field of the nuclear power plants and industries.

The Seism and Structural Integrity Group is in charge of the following disciplines :

  • Structural analysis and design specific to Nuclear Power Plants within the framework of new build, plant operation support and upgrade of existing nuclear installations for the Long-Term Operation;
  • Fracture Mechanics studies;
  • Ageing of structures and components;
  • Analysis and design of component (such as pump, valves, supporting structures, etc.);
  • Piping calculation of existing or new structures including the supports;
  • Design and calculation of anchorages;
  • Seismic analysis of structures and components;
  • Walkdown screening and seismic evaluation (SQUG);
  • Seismic margin assessment of existing structures and components (SMA, SPSA);
  • Seismic qualification of active components .

Your function

  • You are in charge of the design and calculations of nuclear related structures and components subjected to seismic loads;
  • You perform structural analyses using FEM codes;
  • You participate in the writing of technical specifications (design requirements) and the review of technical documents issued by the Contractors;
  • You follow up the seismic qualifications by testing in Belgium or abroad (short mission), and analyse existing seismic qualification test reports for extension to other applications;
  • You perform seismic screening walkdowns in the Nuclear Power Plants of Doel and Tihange and on other sites upon request, HCLPF capacity calculations, and simplified or detailed seismic fragility analyses for structures and components;
  • You work in a team of about thirty engineers, in close interaction with Senior Engineers .

Your profile

  • You are a Mechanical or Structural-Civil Engineer with minimum 5 years of experience in structural analysis and design;
  • You are familiar with European and international codes and standards (Eurocodes as well as American Standards such as ASME, ASCE, AISC, ACI, USNRC (SRP and RG), etc.);
  • You are able to predict the response of structures under static and dynamic loading;
  • You are experienced in general purpose Finite Element and structural codes (such as ANSYS) for static loads or dynamic loads, in case of linear or non-linear analysis;
  • You are able to draft technical reports, calculation notes and technical specifications;
  • You are methodical, accurate, rigorous, solution minded with team-player skills;
  • A background in seismic assessment of structures and components is an asset, as well as experience in seismic margin assessment (SMA and/or SPSA);
  • Knowledge of nuclear domain and safety is considered as an asset;
  • You are able to communicate in English, French and/or Dutch.
