Medical Lead Neuromuscular Diseases

The medical lead provides therapeutic area expertise - defined as a deep understanding of the relevant disease and its physician and patient journey. The therapeutic area for this position is neuromuscular disorders (polyneuropathies, myasthenia gravis). The medical lead has the scientific, clinical or academic credentials to be able to engage with thought leaders in the TA. The medical lead understands what needs that patients, payors and physicians want to see addressed by the solutions UCB is developing or marketing.
The medical lead is able to articulate the value of our solutions, based on the integration of various sources of data, including UCB sponsored interventional and non interventional clinical studies, external databases and literature. The medical lead contributes to the integration of these various data sources and translates this to action, including communication, education and strategy setting. The medical lead ensures data and scientific integrity.
The medical lead is familiar, or will develop familiarity with the KOL network that treats these rare diseases, in order to completely understand the evolving patient and physician journey when new treatment options emerge.
The medical lead is member of a mission in the relevant patient value unit, where the strategy and its implementation is executed. The medical lead is a key contributor to the benefit risk team, and will be accountable to articulate the value of the solution and translate this into benefit for inclusion in benefit risk assessments and value dossiers.
Build and maintain network of external thought leaders in order to provide UCB access to world class expertise
Build, on an ongoing basis, the case for patient value of the assigned asset, as internal and external data become available, using the adequate scientific methods to infer conclusions.
Identify data gaps and define strategies to address these gaps proactively using the all available methods to generate data.
Lead the scientific communication efforts about the value as this evidence grows, using publications, scientific presentations and other external communication platforms.
Ensure that the value of our solutions is articulated in a scientific way in the framework of HTA discussion.
Ensure that communication with patients about benefit is using the right lay language, in collaboration with the safety lead, resulting in a balanced presentation of the benefit risk of our solutions.
Ensure that benefit risk discussions and decisions at the BRT always consider the value of the asset, and that no risk minimization decisions are made without taking the benefit into account.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION
Medical Degree (M.D.)
certification as specialist in the relevant disease area
5-10 years experience in academic setting or the pharmaceutical industry in a clinical development, patient safety or medical affairs role.
Maintains extensive knowledge of the relevant therapeutic areas, diseases, stakeholders, patient journeys and unmet needs, clinical practice, research and development, regulatory, market access environment, and the competitive landscape; applies this knowledge to develop differentiated patient solutions.
Uses innovative medical and scientific approaches and agile decision making to identify, build, and implement patient solutions ensuring long term business sustainability.
Creates and implements patient-focused and patient-driven solutions that engage patients and internal/external stakeholders to understand the patient's disease journey, finds solutions to their needs, and makes UCB the patient-preferred biotech leader.
Anticipates trends and interprets signals in the ecosystem of care and maintains a holistic perspective of medical affairs-related activities externally and within UCB; combines this view with a patient-value focus and business understanding to develop high-impact solutions.
Leverages and maximizes the diversity of medical affairs community to establish and maintain trusted internal and external partnerships to achieve results and improve patient value through discussion and influence.
Works collaboratively to ensure the highest healthcare principles and standards are upheld, while creating agile frameworks and programs to deliver results that maximize patient value.
Summarizes relevant benefit information, articulates medical and scientific concepts pertaining to value and benefit-risk assessments, and appropriately shares the information to enable informed decision making.
Identifies and defines research questions and strategy, relevant data sources, methodologies and systems for safety and effectiveness analysis in a rapidly evolving ecosystem; Executes/interpret analysis to answer the research questions to enable informed decision making.
Understands the value of technology for high quality, consistent and efficient data capture, processing and analysis, including AI.
Ability to collaboratively build, control, and continuously adapt the project plan, with the appropriate level of details, to achieve the project objectives.
Ensures excellence in partnership from different aspects : identification, governance, operational, strategic and people to enable the execution of the UCB Strategy.
