Environmental Compliance Engineer

Purpose of the job: 

Analyse, identify, define, validate, implement, optimize, document and train the environmental compliance processes.

Main Accountabilities: 

  • Provide process support for the Environmental Compliance Office in such a way that compliance is embedded within Barco’s business processes.
  • Maintain and optimize the process by means of methodology, documentation, training and tools.
  • Follow-up world-wide environmental legislation and translate applicable legislation into compliance requirements (for example: ecodesign, hazardous substance and waste regulation).
  • Translate compliance requirements and roles into companywide processes, covering all R&D divisions and all relevant supporting disciplines (R&D, ELS, procurement, Quality, product management, supply chain, Logistics, Sales, …)
  • Gatekeep environmental product compliance for new developed products; aligned with Barco’s worldwide NPI process.
  • Maintain and update Barco’s Ecoscore tool methodology according ISO 14021 requirements. Coach R&D to further improve the Ecoscore of products.
  • Responsible to maintain the automated process between Barco’s ERP system and compliance reporting (in collaboration with IT).
  • Support reporting WEEE, batteries and packaging data to comply with EPR obligations.
  • Requirements


    Masters Degree in a technical domain (engineering, sustainability, ecology, …) or equivalent by experience


  • 2 years of process implementation experience in a similar design and/or production environment
  • Good knowledge about best practises in the product lifecycle process and management systems
  • Experience with Product Data Management tools
  • Experience with Ecodesign
  • Competences

  • Excellent knowledge of English, both oral and written (communication, documentation)
  • Good organization, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication, negotiation, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills to resolve process, methodology and tool issues
  • Fast learning / willing to learn about environmental compliance, Ecodesign and Barco products
  • Passion for achieving results and optimization
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural team
  • Service oriented team-player
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Added values (Barco specific experience)

  • Experience with similar jobs (e.g. Quality, Compliance or Requirement Management)
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Good knowledge of the New Product Introduction process
  • Experience with Barco data management tools (WASDA, TDE, iTrack, …)
  • Experience with complex internal organization and structures
