The maintenance technician installs, checks, maintains, adjusts, cleans and repairs the installations and machines for which he is responsible. The maintenance technician is required to check them regularly to ensure that they are working properly, thus preventing possible incidents, and to implement compliance standards (quality, safety, environment). Finally, the maintenance technician must intervene quickly in the event of a breakdown, change defective parts or repair them.

Tasks of the Maintenance Technician:

Usually assigned to the maintenance or after-sales service department, the mission of the maintenance technician varies according to the sector of activity to which he is assigned. Alone or in a team, outside or in the workshop, the maintenance technician is likely to take charge of the following tasks:

• Installation, adjustment and upgrading of equipment.
• Cleaning, repairing or replacing defective components.
• Management of the permanent availability of the equipment.
• Drafting of intervention data sheets (machine maintenance file) and information at the CMMS level (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
• Participation in the improvement of maintenance procedures.
• Implementation of more efficient devices to increase the efficiency and longevity of the machines.
• Monitoring of innovation in the field concerned.
• Possibly training of users. 

Standard profile of the Maintenance Technician:

The maintenance technician has a high school diploma or equivalent qualification. In addition to very good technical knowledge (depending on the sector of intervention: mechanics, computer science, electricity, electrical engineering, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, boiler making, ...), the maintenance technician must demonstrate a high level of technical competence:

• a mastery of the reading of plans, diagrams and technical notices,
• manual skill: speed of execution and precision,
• an ability to write intervention documents and letters.

Equipped with a good physical condition, the maintenance technician is rigorous and methodical while having a liking for social interaction.

Maintenance technicians can be found in all sectors of activity: factories, oil industry, security services, transport, farms, health sectors, construction sites, electrical production, mechanical workshops, aeronautics, chemistry, within fire and rescue services, ...
