The System Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day management of the company's Information System. He/she is responsible for implementing new systems or new versions, intervenes in the event of technical problems and guarantees the quality of service (optimisation of IT performance, high application availability rate).

Tasks of a Systems Engineer:

  • Managing the information system: The systems engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of a company's computer equipment and software at all its sites. By means of regular tests and checks, they are constantly looking for solutions that can increase the system's performance.
  • Protecting and troubleshooting: Responsible for the confidentiality of the information that transits on the network, it manages access authorisations and installs protection systems. When users have problems, he/she identifies them and resolves them as quickly as possible, in conjunction with the network administrator.
  • Advise and innovate: The systems engineer provides configuration advice to the development teams. He/she evaluates and anticipates the company's needs, informs users of technical developments and, if necessary, supervises training courses. He/she carries out a technological watch and facilitates the integration of new system tools.

Standard profile of a Systems Engineer:

  • Master the technique of the Information System on which he works,
  • Very rigorous in his interventions in order to avoid compromising his availability (being the last person to intervene, he works without a safety net and any error is immediately reflected),
  • Ability to work in a stressful situation so as not to panic when faced with a serious and urgent problem.

The technical nature of this profession means that it is reserved for holders of specialised IT training, graduates of engineering schools oriented towards IT or holders of dedicated university diplomas at Master's level.

The average salary of a Systems Engineer in Belgium is 52k € gross per year.
